Justify Sits Atop 2018 Kentucky Derby Odds

Justify Sits Atop 2018 Kentucky Derby Odds - Bovada Sportsbook

Justify made his stakes race debut in style last weekend, romping to a wire-to-wire victory at the Santa Anita Derby as a -125 wager, a win that has lifted the three-year-old colt to the top of the odds to win the Kentucky Derby as a +400 favorite.

While Justify only made his racing debut in mid-February, last weekend’s win by three lengths leaves the Bob Baffert-trained colt undefeated in three appearances, and he will be backed by plenty of experience during his preparation for the 144th running of the Kentucky Derby at Churchill Downs on May 5.

Baffert has handled four Kentucky Derby winners over his lengthy career, and basked in the glory of American Pharoah’s spectacular Triple Crown win in 2015, while veteran jockey Mike E. Smith has four wins to his credit in Triple Crown races, including riding Giacomo to a stunning victory in the 2005 Kentucky Derby as a lengthy +5000 longshot.

However, the son of Scat Daddy will face stiff competition in this year’s Run for the Roses. Mendelssohn, this year’s early favorite on the Kentucky Derby betting odds, closely trails Justify at +500, followed by Audible at +650, while Bolt d’Oro rounds out the top of the odds at +1000.

Also sired by Scat Daddy, Mendelssohn destroyed the field in his last outing at the UAE Derby, charging to victory by 17 lengths as +160 chalk to extend his current win streak to three races. Prior to his win in Dubai, the Aidan O’Brien-trained colt eked out a pair of narrow wins including a come-from-behind victory at the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf as a +450 favorite.

Audible Third on Kentucky Derby Betting Odds

Trained by Todd Pletcher, who also handled last year’s Kentucky Derby winner Always Dreaming, Audible is undefeated in four outings, and is positioned to become the third straight Florida Derby winner to run to victory at Churchill Downs. Audible overcame a slow start to charge to a three-length victory in the 1-1/8th mile Florida Derby as a +160 favorite, following up on an impressive five-length win in the Holy Bull (G2).

Briefly perched as a +700 favorite on the 2018 Kentucky Derby odds after being awarded the victory at the San Felipe Stakes as a +120 bet when race winner McKinzie was disqualified for interference, Bolt d’Oro has produced a checkered record in four stakes races.

Trained by Mick Ruis, Bolt D’Oro also earned the win at the FrontRunner Stakes, but finished a distant third in a shaky performance at the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile as a heavy -166 favorite, and was unable to keep pace with Justify in a second-place run at last weekend’s Santa Anita Derby as a +120 wager.

Further down the 2018 Kentucky Derby odds, Breeders’ Cup Juvenile winner Good Magic is pegged at +1200, ahead of Magnum Moon, who joins Solomini at +1600. Mask is knotted with Noble Indy at +2000, while Enticed has slipped to +2500 after a disappointing second-place finish at last weekend’s Wood Memorial as a +120 bet.

Enticed is joined at +2500 by Promises Fulfilled, while six horses remain knotted at +3300 including Strike Power, Montauk, Nero, Alkhaatam, Mississippi, and My Boy Jack.
