Brazil the Favorite on World Cup Group E Odds

Odds For 2018 World Cup Group E

A trio of national sides remain in the hunt for top spot on the Group E table ahead of FIFA World Cup group stage action on Wednesday, but it is Brazil that sits as the clear favorite to finish atop the table, pegged at a short -300 on the World Cup Group E betting odds.

Brazil overcame a shaky start to the tournament, failing to close the deal in a 1-1 draw with Switzerland on June 17 as +700 underdogs. However, the Canarinho rebounded with a 2-0 win over Costa Rica, and are now unbeaten in 13 matches across all competitions as they prepare to close out their group stage schedule as heavy -200 favorites in Wednesday’s Serbia vs. Brazil match at Spartak Stadium.

The Brazilians have kept clean sheets on 10 occasions during their current 13-match surge, and have a lot to prove at Russia 2014 following their humiliating exit from the semi-finals as the host nation at the 2014 World Cup. The Canarinho have slipped, at least temporarily, from the top of the World Cup championship odds, where they now trail Spain at +500.

Brazil must also contend with an upstart Serbian squad that is pegged as a +550 underdog on the game line after storming out of the gate to a 1-0 win over Costa Rica and coming within a heartbreaking late goal of a draw in a 2-1 loss to Switzerland as +175 favorites last Friday.

While the White Eagles have failed to reach the knockout stage at the World Cup since 1998, they have posted wins in three of five overall outings, outscoring opponents by a 9-4 margin, and sit as a +1200 bet on the World Cup Group E odds to join Brazil in advancing to the Round of 16.

Swiss Favored in Group E matchup vs. Costa Rica

In Wednesday’s other Group E clash, Switzerland will be looking to justify their lofty position at No. 6 on the FIFA World Ranking, and lock up a berth in the knockout stage, when they battle the winless Ticos as -160 favorites.

The Rossocrociati extended their unbeaten streak to eight games with their win over Serbia, and need just a single point in Wednesday’s Switzerland vs. Costa Rica match to pay out on heavy -10000 odds to advance out of the group stage. With Brazil currently holding the edge on tiebreakers, the Swiss will likely need to claim all three points against the Ticos, and receive help from Serbia in their date with Brazil, to have any chance of finishing atop the Group E table as a +275 wager.

Already bounced from the odds to win Group E, Costa Rica battles Switzerland as lengthy +550 underdogs on the game line.

The darlings of the 2014 World Cup have been unable to shake off a slump that started in the final days of CONCACAF World Cup qualifying, and has saddled them with a dismal 2-2-8 win-draw-loss record in their past 12 matches across all competitions. The Ticos also remain the only squad at Russia 2018 to fail to score during group stage action, and have been held off the scoresheet in six of their past nine outings.
