Man City Remains Champions League Chalk

Man City Remains Champions League Chalk - Bovada Sportsbook

Manchester City opened their UEFA Champions League Round of 16 matchup with FC Basel in dominating fashion last week, handing the Swiss Super League side a 4-0 beating as -300 favorites in first-leg action and cementing their position as +300 favorites on the odds to win the 2018 Champions League.

Tuesday’s victory extended the Citizens’ current unbeaten streak across all competitions to seven matches, and marks the fourth time the club has kept a clean sheet in seven UCL contests this season.

While Manchester City is well positioned to advance to the UCL quarter-finals in their second-leg tilt with FC Basel at Etihad Stadium on March 7, they face stiff competition in matches beforehand. The Citizens look forward to consecutive clashes with Arsenal FC next week at Emirates Stadium, before returning home for a Premier League date with Chelsea FC on March 4.

The Blues are coming off a pair of shutout victories in domestic cup and league action, capped by Friday’s 4-0 pounding of Hull City as a -700 bet on the EPL odds, but have struggled against UCL opponents, posting just one win in four matches. Chelsea’s shaky play is reflected on the Champions League futures odds, where they trail at a long +2500 ahead of Tuesday afternoon’s Round of 16 matchup with FC Barcelona at Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea is pegged as a +250 underdog against Barca despite going unbeaten in eight meetings between the two sides. Barcelona prepares for Tuesday’s matchup as +110 favorites after surrendering just two total goals during an eight-match unbeaten streak across all competitions, and closely trails City on the UCL odds, joining both Bayern Munich and Real Madrid at +500.

Barca has been dominant since the start of the current campaign, suffering just one defeat in 33 overall matchups, and has reached the Champions League quarter-finals in each of the past 10 years, emerging as tournament winners on three occasions.

Bayern Rides Winning Streak into the Week

Bayern is pegged as heavy -800 home chalk in Tuesday’s Round of 16 first-leg clash with Besiktas JK, and rides a 15-match win streak across all competitions. The five-time defending Bundesliga champions have suffered just one defeat in 20 Champions League outings at Allianz Arena, but have failed to advance past the UCL semi-finals in the four seasons since last raising the hardware in 2013.

Real Madrid overcame a difficult test in their Round of 16 opener, topping Paris Saint-Germain 3-1 last week at Santiago Bernabéu Stadium to reward bettors as +150 favorites.

Winners of the Champions League in three of the past four years, Real Madrid have struggled with consistency this season, stumbling to a 13-6-4 record and fourth place on the La Liga table, and a second-place finish in Group H during UCL Group stage action. However, Real are now unbeaten in three Champions League outings, and are 4-1-1 in six dates with Paris.

Despite their first-leg loss to Real, PSG remain a strong +800 bet on the Champions League odds, ahead of Liverpool FC at +900. Further down the Champions League futures, Manchester United joins Tottenham Hotspur at +1400, ahead of Juventus at +2200, while AS Roma lags at +3300.
