Cubs Headline 2017 World Series Odds
- Updated: November 8, 2016
The Chicago Cubs outlasted the Cleveland Indians in seven games to win the 2016 World Series, and they’re also set as the clear favorites on the odds to win the 2017 World Series.
The Cubs are +350 favorites on the odds to win the 2017 World Series, after they put an end to their massive championship drought last week by coming from behind in the series against the Indians to win the title. Chicago had previously topped the San Francisco Giants in four games in the NLDS and the Los Angeles Dodgers in six games in the NLCS.
And all that came after Chicago posted a league-high 103 victories during the regular season backed by young stars Kris Bryant and Anthony Rizzo along with a stellar starting rotation. That has oddsmakers optimistic the Cubs won’t suffer a regression in the 2017 campaign.
Second behind the Cubs on the early 2017 World Series odds are the Boston Red Sox at +900. The Red Sox finished atop the AL East standings this past season but were unable to make any noise in the postseason, getting swept in three games by the Indians in the NLDS. Boston’s top offseason task will be to find a replacement for retiring slugger David Ortiz.
The Dodgers are then at +1000 on the odds to win the 2017 World Series, followed by the Washington Nationals at +1200. The Nationals fell in five games to the Dodgers in the NLDS despite boasting the second-best mark in the National League this past season with 95 wins.
The Indians, who frittered away their lead in the World Series to keep their own lengthy championship drought alive, are tied with the Nationals at +1200 on those futures for next season. The Toronto Blue Jays, five-games losers to the Indians in the ALCS, are at +1400 on the 2017 World Series odds but could have to cope with the loss of both Jose Bautista and Edwin Encarnacion this offseason. The Giants join the Blue Jays at +1400 on the odds board.
The New York Mets, Houston Astros, and Texas Rangers all hold down odds of +1600 to win the World Series in 2017, with the Baltimore Orioles, Detroit Tigers, and St. Louis Cardinals all at +2200, and the Seattle Mariners and the New York Yankees at +2500. The Pittsburgh Pirates (+2800) and the Kansas City Royals (+3300) round out the second tier of contenders.
And if you’re looking for longshots, the biggest odds to win the 2017 World Series are held by five teams – with each of the Braves, Reds, Twins, Phillies, and Padres pegged at +10000.
