Warriors Remain the NBA Title Favorites
- Updated: March 20, 2017
The Golden State Warriors have been slowing losing their lead over the San Antonio Spurs in the Western Conference standings, but they’re still the clear favorites on the NBA title odds.
With Kevin Durant still recovering from a knee injury that is expected to keep him off the floor for the remainder of the regular season, the Warriors have played just .500 basketball over the past couple of weeks. That has allowed the Spurs to get within striking distance of the Warriors in the overall Western Conference standings and in position to steal the top seed.
However, Golden State remains the clear -120 favorite on the odds to win the NBA championship this season, with its playoff-tested lineup and Durant coming back at some point in the posteason. Still, the Warriors won 73 games last season and 67 games the year before, and won’t reach those levels this year. Golden State has already clinched its division.
The Cleveland Cavaliers haven’t been setting the world afire over the past couple of weeks either, giving the Boston Celtics some life in the race for first overall in the Eastern Conference standings. LeBron James and the defending champions, though, remain the second favorites on the odds to win the NBA title once again this year, sitting at a +250 line.
The Cavs got a boost this past week when forward Kevin Love returned from knee surgery.
And rounding out the top three teams on the latest NBA championship odds are the San Antonio Spurs at +600. The Spurs are also getting healthy for the stretch run, with MVP candidate Kawhi Leonard cleared to return from his concussion last week and forward LaMarcus Aldridge back on the hardwood after missing some games with a heart arrhythmia.
Rockets, Celtics Trail Chalk on Title Odds
The only other team anywhere near the Warriors and the Spurs in the Western standings is the Houston Rockets, and they’re at +1200 on the odds to win the NBA championship this season behind James Harden’s strong play. Rounding out the Western clubs on the futures list are the Los Angeles Clippers at +4000, the Utah Jazz at +5000, the Oklahoma City Thunder at +7500, the Memphis Grizzlies at +10000, the Denver Nuggets, Dallas Mavericks, and Portland Trail Blazers at +30000, and the New Orleans Pelicans well behind at +50000.
The Celtics sit at +1800 on the NBA title odds heading into the stretch run as they try to wrestle the East’s top seed away from the Cavaliers, while the Washington Wizards have been hot and sit at +3300 on the futures and third in the East standings. The Toronto Raptors (+5000), Atlanta Hawks (+10000), and Indiana Pacers (+15000) follow along on those odds.
